AT-HOME

At-Home Projects You Can Do Right Now!

These are strange times and many of us are feeling helpless and want to do something meaningful, something that will make even a small difference.

Below are several ways you can touch someone's heart, make them feel cared for and less alone and isolated.

NEXT DELIVERY IS SCHEDULED FOR FRIDAY, AUG 8TH.

ALL ITEMS SHOULD BE RECEIVED FOR THIS DELIVERY NO LATER THAN THURSDAY, AUG 7TH.

KINDNESS KITS

Please help promote neighborly spirit to older adults and let them know they’re in our thoughts and we’re thinking of them during these especially difficult times.  Recipients are living alone and do not have nearby family. You will assemble the kit and bring them to one of our drop spots (address list is at bottom) and we will then transport them to the recipients. Kits can include activities that older adults can do while at home, snacks or just a little something to brighten someone’s day. Below are a few possible items to include - please use your imagination!

  • Handwritten notes/cards - we’re thinking about you and hope you’re staying well.  Stumped on what to say?  We’ve included some examples of possible cards below.

  • Jigsaw Puzzles                             ●  Lip Balm / Lotion / Hand Sanitizer

  • Adult Coloring Books                 ●  Gum

  • Crossword/Sudoku Puzzles        ●  Popcorn - microwavable

  • Magazines                                    ●  Candy - chewy, hard and chocolate

  • Books you’d like to share           ●  Tootsie Rolls / Pops

  • Art Materials - pens, colored pencils, sketch pad, etc

  • Masks

All items should be placed in a small bag (ziploc, reusable grocery bag, plastic grocery bag or small gift bag) and closed to prevent items from easily falling out.

KINDNESS CARDS

Here are some examples of some cute, easy cards that you can attach to your Kindness Kit or Flower Bouquet.  You are also welcome to make cards and we will make sure to deliver them - just to brighten someone's day!

Cards should be no larger than 8 1/2" by 11" folded in half.  Smaller, 3"x 5" index cards are also welcome.  Use your imagination!  Sample cards you can print and color (or use for inspiration) can be found here.

MAKE PLARN - CROCHET SLEEPING MATS

Trying to find a good and green use for all of those plastic grocery bags? Help us make plarn!  Plarn is simply "plastic yarn" that is made from cutting plastic grocery bags.  It can then be crocheted into sleeping mats for the homeless that will be donated to Nate's Way.

There are 3 ways you can help in this process:

  • Collect bags - ask your friends, neighbors, social groups. Drop off collected bags at one of the sites listed below.

  • Make plarn - simply cut bags and then tie loops together. Here are the directions for cutting the bags and tying loops together. Please email us if you need bags!

  • Crochet the plarn into a sleeping mats for the homeless. Let us know if you need plarn - we'll deliver it to your doorstep!

Click this link to see a video on the entire process.

Help put those old grocery bags to good use!
